Tesla Model Y L Premium: Five key highlights explained

Tesla India today launched the new Tesla Model Y L Premium electric vehicle in the Indian market. The L stands for Long Wheelbase and comes with a six-seat configuration with captain seats for the middle row. This is also the first Model Y variant in India to be offered with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Interested customers can book the car online or by visiting their nearest Tesla dealership, deliveries are expected to begin soon. In this article, let’s take a look at five things you need to know.

PriceTalking about the price first, the new Tesla Model Y L Premium electric is the new top-of-the-line variant in the Model Y lineup. The new Model Y Long Wheelbase Variant is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y Premium RWD is priced at 59.89 lakh and the Model Y Premium RWD Long range is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The model is manufactured at Tesla’s Shanghai plant and is imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU).Design and dimensions In terms of design, the new Tesla Model Y L features a clean and minimal design approach, with a slightly extended stance that enhances its road presence while retaining the brand’s familiar styling. At the front, it features a closed-off nose in place of a traditional grille, along with neatly integrated LED headlamps. In profile, the longer wheelbase results in more balanced proportions and a more planted appearance. It also retains flush-fitting door handles and smooth body surfaces, with minimal design lines.A large glass roof extends across most of the car, contributing to a more open and premium look. At the rear, the design remains understated, with sleek LED tail lamps, a subtle boot lip and minimal badging. Dimensionally, the new Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase measures a 3,040mm wheelbase, which is 150mm longer than the standard version. The overall length has increased by 179mm to 4,969mm, while the width remains unchanged at 1,982mm. The height has risen by 44mm to 1,668mm. Ground clearance stands at 169mm, which is 2mm higher than the regular model.

Interior and featuresMoving inside, the car gets a six-seat configuration in a 2+2+2 layout. The long wheelbase variant offers increased rear seat space and improved cabin comfort compared to the standard model, enhancing its suitability for family use. Features-wise, it gets heated and ventilated seats for both the front and second row, a heated steering wheel, a 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual wireless charging pads, extended under-thigh support for the front seats, and pillar-mounted rear AC vents.

Gets 6-seat layout

Battery and range Tesla has not disclosed detailed specifications such as battery size, power and torque figures, but based on the right-hand-drive version sold in Australia, the Model Y L is expected to use an 85kWh (net) battery, with estimated outputs of 456hp and 590Nm, making it the most powerful Model Y in India. It is also the only variant to offer an all-wheel-drive setup, with a claimed 0-100kph time of 5 seconds and a range of 681km. In comparison, the rear-wheel-drive model is rated at 500km, while the long-range version offers up to 661km.Colour options The Model Y L is offered with six exterior colour options and two interior themes, with Stealth Grey and a Black cabin available as standard. Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black are priced at an additional Rs 95,000, while Glacier Blue costs Rs 1.25 lakh extra. Ultra Red and Cosmic Silver are available at a premium of Rs 1.85 lakh. The Zen Grey interior theme is also optional and priced at Rs 95,000. The Model Y L is offered with 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels as standard and is among the few markets outside China to receive this variant.
