Only the right eyes can spot a hidden treasure. A UK woman discovered just how valuable her eye for a bargain was after a £5 car boot sale find turned out to be a diamond ring worth almost 3,000 times what she paid for it!The woman, whose name remains undisclosed, was browsing the items displayed at a car boot sale. There were many household items, but one piece of jewellery caught her eye. It was a ring with a diamond-like stone. She assumed the ring was costume jewellery, something sparkly to wear at the weekend. But it turned out to be far more valuable. The ring was later valued at approximately £15,000 ($20,225), according to a report by National Jeweler.

The woman decided to buy the ring because of its appearance. She wore it over the weekend and noticed that its sparkle had not faded, which made her curious about its value. She took it to a WeBuyVintage valuation roadshow at Seacourt Hall in Botley, Oxfordshire. Anyone familiar with the long-running Antiques Roadshow on British television would understand the appeal. This is an opportunity for members of the public to bring in their pieces of jewellery for experts to examine. This particular session was held at Seacourt Hall in Botley, Oxfordshire.

Gemologist Asha Nayak examined the jewellery and found that the ring was set in 18-carat gold. She immediately realised that the stone could be a diamond. Upon examination, it turned out to be a natural diamond weighing 3.02 carats. She estimated the ring’s value at about £15,000.“I was completely shocked,” the woman who bought the ring told the outlet. “I only paid £5 for the ring, thinking it was just an attractive costume jewellery piece, and never expected it to be worth thousands. It was such an incredible surprise and a moment I will never forget.”Her reaction captures the extraordinary luck of a find like this. Nobody expected the ring to be worth thousands. She simply liked how it looked, bought it for almost nothing, and then had someone with the right training take a closer look. The gemologist was equally surprised. “Finds like this are exactly why we love what we do. Jewellery can often hold incredible stories, and sometimes the most unassuming pieces can turn out to be something truly special.”Nayak added, “This ring was a fantastic example of how expert examination can uncover the hidden quality, craftsmanship, and history behind a piece.”WeBuyVintage stated that it refers such items to auction when it believes a higher price is likely. The company has not said whether the owner accepted an offer for the ring or kept it. That detail remains unknown. What is clear is the arithmetic: a £5 purchase, one expert’s close inspection, and an estimate roughly 3,000 times the price paid! While many people walked past that sparkly ring, this woman noticed it. Although she did not know its true value at the time, her instincts told her it was worth the £5. It turned out to be one of the best £5 investments she had ever made!
