The announcement comes after the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) had earlier termed a viral notice claiming an April 24 result date as fake.In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said, “Higher Secondary results will be declared on 28th April. My best wishes to all students appearing for the exam.” The confirmation has brought relief to over three lakh students who had been awaiting clarity amid rumours and conflicting reports over the result date.Fake notice dismissed before official confirmationJust days earlier, a notice circulating online had claimed the HS results would be released on April 24. However, an ASSEB official had told TOI Education, on condition of anonymity, that the notice was fabricated and no final decision had been taken at that point on announcing the results.The board’s clarification had come amid heightened anxiety among students and parents, especially with undergraduate admission schedules approaching. With the Chief Minister’s latest announcement, the speculation over the result date has now ended.

Over 3.3 lakh students await resultsThe Assam HS examinations 2026 were conducted from February 13 to March 17 across the state, while practical examinations were held in late January and early February. This year, around 3.3 lakh candidates reportedly appeared for the exams across Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational streams.Arts continued to account for the highest number of candidates, with roughly 2.4 lakh students, while Science saw over 55,000 candidates and Commerce around 17,000, according to available participation figures. The results will be released for all streams simultaneously.Previous result trends pointed to late-April releaseThe April 28 declaration broadly aligns with Assam’s recent result pattern. In 2025, the HS results were announced on April 30, while in 2024 they were declared in early May. The board has in recent years moved toward earlier result publication to align with national higher education admission timelines.Last year, the overall pass percentage stood above 88 per cent, with Science recording the highest success rate among major streams. Similar performance trends will be closely watched this year as students compete for admissions to universities and professional courses.Students advised to use official portalsStudents will be able to check their scores through official result portals once activated by ASSEB on April 28.
