With the Chartered Accountants (CA) Final Examination results scheduled to be declared on June 18, an entirely different discussion has begun circulating online.Over the past few hours, posts on X, Reddit and cybercrime monitoring accounts have claimed that systems linked to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) may have been compromised. The claims range from alleged access to examination records to a separate alleged leak of member data.None of these claims have been independently verified. ICAI has not publicly confirmed any breach at the time of writing.Yet the timing has ensured that the allegations are drawing attention among students, members and accounting professionals, particularly because the Chartered Accountants Final Examination results are due on June 18 and the Chartered Accountants Intermediate Examination results are scheduled for June 24.
What the online claims say
One of the claims by an X account called DarkWebInformer, which said a threat actor using the alias “zowico” was claiming access to ICAI’s examiners portal.According to the post, the actor allegedly claimed “full remote code execution and superadmin control” of the portal and alleged access to answer sheets of students who appeared in the May 2026 examinations, examiner profiles and marking schemes.The post further claimed that marks could allegedly be modified at the question level and for entire answer scripts.However, the same post also mentioned that the claim remained unverified. No independent evidence confirming these allegations has been made public so far.
Chartered Accountants call for clarification
The allegations have prompted reactions from members of the profession.Chartered Accountant Himank Singla wrote on X that reports were circulating about an alleged compromise of the ICAI examiners portal, including claims of unauthorised access to answer sheets, examiner profiles and marking schemes.“I have immense trust in ICAI and the robustness of its examination processes. At the same time, given the seriousness of these allegations, an official statement and transparent clarification from the Institute would help address concerns and maintain confidence among students, members, and stakeholders,” he said.Singla also said that the claims remained unverified but deserved prompt attention and communication.Another chartered accountant, Dr Rohit Ruwatia Agarwal, sought to counter the speculation.“Some rumour is afloat that data of CA Final exams have been compromised but there is no substance to it. Data are maintained by TCS and the same has been confirmed by TCS that no data compromised,” he wrote on X.The statement reflects the divide that has emerged online, with some users demanding clarification and others urging caution against treating social media claims as established facts.
Separate claims of a member database leak
Alongside the alleged examination portal compromise, a separate set of claims has also surfaced online regarding a purported ICAI member database leak.Posts attributed to the same threat actor claim that a database containing more than 600,000 records linked to ICAI members has been exposed.According to these claims, the alleged dataset could contain names, membership numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, professional and residential addresses, Certificate of Practice information and other registration-related records.The authenticity, source and scale of the alleged dataset have not been independently verified.
Why the claims are drawing attention
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, to regulate the profession in India.Apart from conducting examinations, ICAI maintains professional records of chartered accountants across the country.That is one reason the allegations have generated interest online. If any compromise involving examination systems or member records were to be verified, it could potentially affect students awaiting results, practising professionals and accounting firms.At present, however, the available information largely consists of claims made on social media platforms and cybercrime forums.
Results around the corner
The discussion is unfolding just days before a key result cycle.ICAI has already announced that the results of the CA Final Examination held in May 2026 will be declared by the evening of June 18. The results of the CA Inter Examination held in May 2026 will be declared by the evening of June 24.Candidates will be able to access their results through the official results portal using their registration number and roll number.
The question now
For now, there are two parallel realities. One is a growing stream of online posts alleging access to examination systems and member databases.The other is the absence of any public confirmation from ICAI that such a breach has occurred.Until technical evidence emerges or an official clarification is issued, the claims remain allegations. But with examination results only days away, many students and members are likely to be watching for one thing: whether ICAI addresses the speculation directly and puts the questions to rest.
