Recalling how he got his name, Suryah told Behindwoods, “Vasanth sir told me to write 10 names, and he would name them for me.”He explained that he prepared the list by writing down the names of on-screen heroes who had appeared in Mani Ratnam’s films, as Vasanth admired the filmmaker’s work. SJ Suryah then handed the list to Vasanth the following morning, as requested by the director.Recalling the moment, he said, “Vasanth sir said, ‘What Suryah?’ I said, ‘Sir.’ He said, ‘That’s your name.’”SJ Suryah added, “That’s how I got the name.” The exchange eventually gave him the name that became familiar to audiences.
