Rock star Jon Bon Jovi made a quick multi-million-pound property deal in South Florida, selling a newly built oceanfront mansion in Palm Beach for $19.85 million (£15.8 million), just two years after buying the original property for about half that amount. According to property records and local real estate reports, first detailed by The Real Deal, the musician completed the sale of the custom-built home on North Ocean Boulevard in July 2020. On the same day, he bought a much larger oceanfront estate farther south on South Ocean Boulevard for $43 million (£34.2 million). The two deals represent one of the fastest and most profitable residential redevelopments by a celebrity in Palm Beach in recent years.

A $10 million property makeover

Bon Jovi bought the original property at 1075 North Ocean Boulevard in 2018 through a limited liability company for $10 million. Instead of moving into the existing 1950s house, the singer decided to demolish it. He then built a custom two-storey mansion covering about 5,000 square feet. The home was designed in a modern Mediterranean style. The finished property has five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms. It also includes an oceanfront swimming pool, a covered loggia, a courtyard, an elevator and a two-car garage. Yahoo News reported that the property was initially listed for $22.9 million before the asking price was reduced. The final sale price of $19.85 million gave Bon Jovi a large gross gain compared with the original $10 million land purchase, although construction costs would have reduced the overall profit.

Moving to a larger estate

Instead of keeping the property or using the proceeds elsewhere, Jon Bon Jovi immediately put the money into a much larger Palm Beach estate. Records show that he bought 1020 South Ocean Boulevard on the same day the North Ocean Boulevard property was sold. The seller was a company linked to real estate developer and trial attorney Thomas Holofcener. The new estate sits on more than one acre of land and has much more living space. The mansion covers more than 10,000 square feet and includes seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and five half-bathrooms. Built in 2007, the home has several luxury features, including a courtyard, swimming pool, wine cellar, full home gym and a separate apartment for staff. It also has direct beach access across the street, making it especially attractive in Palm Beach’s luxury property market.

Palm Beach’s property boom

The two transactions also show how strong South Florida’s luxury property market was in 2020. Wealthy buyers, especially from New York and New Jersey, increasingly looked to Florida for primary and second homes because of its tax advantages and warm climate. Palm Beach was one of the areas that saw strong sales and rising property prices during 2020. High-end buyers were purchasing land, renovating older homes and tearing down existing properties to build new custom oceanfront estates. Jon Bon Jovi is one of several well-known public figures who have invested in property in the area, joining other wealthy homeowners in the exclusive beachfront community. The buyer of Bon Jovi’s North Ocean Boulevard home was not publicly identified in property records. The sale was completed through a trustee account.

Holdouts against mega-assemblages

In mid-2025, reports from Realtor.com and The Wall Street Journal said that Bon Jovi’s $43 million estate on South Ocean Boulevard had become a key target in a major land-buying effort. A mystery buyer, reportedly linked to tech billionaires, spent more than $250 million buying nearby properties. This included an adjacent 2.8-acre oceanfront plot bought from cosmetics heir William Lauder for about $178 million. According to industry reports, Bon Jovi repeatedly turned down multi-million-dollar offers to sell his property. He chose to keep his 10,000-square-foot estate despite strong pressure to sell as buyers continued assembling large amounts of land in the area.

Billionaires’ Row expansions

  • Ken Griffin (Citadel): The hedge fund founder has acquired more than 27 connected acres along South County Road in Palm Beach. He has spent well over $350 million on several mansions and oceanfront properties, including the historic $105 million La Follia estate. His purchases are intended to create one of the largest private residential compounds in U.S. history.
  • William Lauder: The Estée Lauder heir spent more than $25 million in 2020 buying neighboring properties on North Ocean Boulevard. He demolished the existing homes and later offered the combined property for between $178 million and $200 million.

Broader South Florida celebrity relocations

  • Billy Joel: In late 2024, the musician completed the sale of his large oceanfront estate in Manalapan for $42.6 million. He later bought a $40 million waterfront home in Boca Raton’s Sanctuary community.
  • Mark Wahlberg: After selling his $63 million Beverly Hills mansion, Wahlberg bought a $37 million estate at Stone Creek Ranch in Delray Beach.
  • Kevin James: The actor purchased a $17.15 million custom-built home in Boca Raton’s Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. His move reflects the growing interest among high-profile buyers in private, gated communities across South Florida.
