India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul missed the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff after falling ill. The visitors made one change to their playing XI, with Ishan Kishan coming in as Rahul’s replacement.England captain Harry Brook won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping to make use of the conditions. India, meanwhile, said they would have preferred to bowl as well but were forced into a change because of Rahul’s absence. Confirming the reason at the toss, India captain Shubman Gill said, “We would have bowled first as well. Doing well and very happy. We had a perfect game, hopefully we will do it again today. We started well and it was great to see fast bowlers do well. Very good memories here. We have one change, KL is sick and Ishan comes in for him.”Rahul’s illness meant Ishan Kishan returned to the ODI side, taking over the wicketkeeping duties. The rest of India’s XI remained unchanged from the opening match, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Gurnoor Brar, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna retaining their places.England also made two changes to their side. Harry Brook confirmed that Josh Tongue and Liam Dawson were replaced by Saqib Mahmood and Gus Atkinson. The second ODI is crucial for England after India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a six-wicket victory in the opener. India will be aiming to seal the series in Cardiff, while England need a win to keep the contest alive heading into the final ODI.With conditions expected to favour both seamers early and batters later in the innings, England opted to field first in an attempt to make the most of the fresh pitch and overhead conditions.
