The ‘Save Me’ singer had a perilous childhood. He grew up in a small neighbourhood in Nashville, Tennessee, and was even arrested by the time he turned 14. Two years later, he was taken in for aggravated robbery and was charged as an adult. Over the years, the man has talked about his childhood and his days as a prisoner quite candidly. While in conversation with Billboard in 2023, the rapper shared that he understood that it was a “heinous crime.”

Further he shared, “This is a grown man looking back at a 16-year-old kid that made the worst decision that he could have made in life, and people could have got hurt and, by the grace of God, thankfully, nobody did.” He also shared in the interview that the decisions that he made in that part of his life are still stuck with him. His charges are still on his record, and there are a lot of restrictions on him, including the fact that he cannot vote or volunteer, and he cannot own a firearm either. In order to turn his life around, he took educational courses in prison and cleared his GED on the first attempt. He left prison when his daughter turned two, and since then has stayed by her side. You’re talking about a woman who came in and took a child that was soon to be born and a child that [we were] soon to have full custody of. I would have never got custody of my daughter without her.
