Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG, bringing a substantial update to its three-door lifestyle SUV. Prices start at Rs 10.32 lakh, ex-showroom, while deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026. The new model gets a new platform, revised suspension, more powerful engine options, additional safety features and styling changes.The Thar OG is based on Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform, which is claimed to offer higher stiffness for improved on-road and off-road driving characteristics. The SUV also gets DAVINCI Damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) and a rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link.The SUV now comes with Electric Power Steering, which is aimed at making manoeuvring easier, particularly at lower speeds. Mahindra has also worked on NVH levels, with the company claiming improved refinement inside the cabin.
Mahindra Thar OG : Engine options
The Thar OG gets three engine options. The 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm. The D117 CRDe diesel continues to produce 87.2 kW and 300 Nm.Depending on the variant and powertrain, the Thar OG is available with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The 4WD versions get an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow Terrain Modes. RWD versions with the 2.2-litre mHawk and 2.0-litre mStallion engines also get Terrain Assist.
Thar OG gets styling and cabin updates
The overall boxy silhouette of the Thar has been retained, but Mahindra has made several design changes. The SUV gets a new grille, LED headlamps with signature C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering function and new LED tail lamps. It also gets revised front and rear bumpers and new R19 alloy wheels on higher variants.The Thar OG is offered in two new exterior colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, along with six existing colour options. Inside, the SUV gets Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a soft second-row armrest with integrated cupholders.Other features include a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system, colour MID, cruise control, rear AC vents, rear wiper and washer, wireless charging and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV also gets washable flooring with drain plugs on 4WD variants.
Six airbags now standard
Safety is another area where the Thar OG gets a major update. Six airbags and all-four disc brakes are now offered, with the airbag package including four Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags for front and rear occupantsThe SUV also gets an ESP 9.3 suite, including rollover mitigation, traction control, hill-hold control and vehicle dynamics control. Higher variants get front parking sensors and a rear-view camera, while a tyre pressure monitoring system is also available.
Mahindra Thar OG price and variants
The Thar OG is available in AXT, LXT and ZXT variants. The entry-level AXT is priced at Rs 10.32 lakh and is available with the D117 CRDe diesel engine, RWD and a manual gearbox.
The LXT variant starts at Rs 12.99 lakh for the D117 CRDe diesel RWD manual and goes up to Rs 18.00 lakh, depending on the powertrain and configuration. The ZXT range starts at Rs 13.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.99 lakh.These are introductory prices and are valid for deliveries made until November 30, 2026.
