Following the student protest in India, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post. Several Bollywood celebrities stood in solidarity with the students, and famous lyricist Manoj Muntashir also voiced his support for students demanding justice over the NEET paper leak. However, he did question the direction and representation of the protests. While speaking to us exclusively, he called for systemic reforms, but also mentioned what he found was wrong with the student protest.
Manoj Muntashir expresses his reservations about the students’ agitation against the NEET leaks
“Students should be listened to. How can there be any other opinion regarding this? Whatever they are saying, and if even one student has lost his life, then the whole system should be held accountable. And we are seeing that today, the Prime Minister’s post has also come,” expressed the famous lyricist ahead of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.“He has formed the SIT. It is written on the post of the Prime Minister that he is going to punish every single offender who has contributed to the NEET paper leak,” he added.Then sharing what he found wrong with the movement, he said, “At the same time, what is happening on Jantar Mantar? What was this? We want to see this country becoming Bangladesh? We want to see us becoming Nepal? The way the youth is being misled, the youth of this country deserves a better representation.”
Manoj Muntashir says he is not against the students’ movement; he doesn’t agree with the representation
“The issue that was there, the issue of NEET is a very big issue,” he said before asking, “Did we talk about this issue?”“We should listen to the students 100%. And I am sure that the outcome of this movement will be something positive. Their pain, their suffering will reach our Prime Minister, will reach the government. And it is reaching. I can see that it is reaching. That’s it,” he added.“It is not that the paper leak has happened for the first time. It used to happen earlier too. So there is a problem in the system. And this problem is not with the ministers and the governments. It has happened in the previous governments, and it is happening in this government too. So there is a problem. It is a rotten system. Please fix that system,” he clarified.Elaborating on his point further, he said, “If anyone says that someone should come forward to advocate for the system, then that person is wrong. There is no advocacy for the system. Here, I am completely with the students.”“But I am not with those people who are traitors. I am not with those people who say that India is broken,” he concluded.
